The Alternate Routes

I almost feel like a scavenger when it comes to watching movies and TV Series(s) because not only do I closely scrutinize the characters and their performances, but also the songs that play in the background. And I must say, ever since I started developing my own unique taste for music and stopped asking for opinions, movie soundtracks have been a major source of my food for soul. And boy, am I glad of it!

One such experience was while watching Van Wilder 2: The Rise of Taj. Here’s how it goes, and it hooked me up the moment I heard these words:

Most days, I’m burning in the fire,

I got a cliché, cold staring at my world,

But these days, the bird is on the wire,

Two fingers pull a pen, a half drawn picture of a dream…

And here, between the writing on the wall,

I try, to feel forgotten for a while,

And it’s hard, and I get angry all the time,

But this, is not a life I cannot change…

And somewhere in the heart of the aftermath, there’s an answer for me,

Cause you could’ve been anybody on the road for me…

For those who haven’t figured it by now (not that I expect anybody to), the song’s name is Aftermath. And the band is – yes! The Alternate Routes. And if you’re me, one good thing leads to another, and that leads to another one; also, most of it happens on the same day. And so after a good 45 minutes of browsing and surfing and downloading, I finally return to the movie. But hey, the post is not about me or the movie, it’s about The Alternate Routes!

Everything about their music is perfect! I’m not saying that I love all their songs, but the ones that I like, are a perfect blend of lyrics, music and mesmerizing vocals. Again, I’m no great authority on music, so the songs that I might not be too fond of, someone else might love them. So, the only thing I’d request to anyone who reads this, is to have an open mind and give it a fair hearing, because they totally deserve it! And that, ain’t subjective.

For the last week, I’ve been floating in another awesome song by them, “Ordinary”, and here’s how it goes,

I’ve been wasting my days, good and reckless and true,

I have danced in the dark, at the edge of the water,

Swinging my hips at the black and the blue…

And when you die will you be, surrounded by friends,

Will they pray for a heaven out loud,

A hope that somehow they will, see you again…

And at the end of the day, knowing not what it means,

Will you stand in the ashes, building the flame,

For the rest of your dreams…

And would you love, could you love to be ordinary,

I know it’s hard but I can’t see you trying…

And would you love, could you love to be ordinary,

Cause I can’t see you trying now…

Another band that I’m crazy about is Oasis, but more about that later.

You can be sure I’ll look at that myspace page. Time, do yeild and stretch your feathery wings. Interesting lyrics; I wonder how they sound!

Waiting for the Oasis page. Do a special feature on the Morning glory days, could you?

    Cheers.
