Have you ever thought that how is it that you so surely know the fact that somebody like god exists and rules the world? Because your parents said it? Because your teachers said it? Hell, because every one says it so and obviously the entire world is not a fool!
Some of the more logical types would say that since the universe exists, there must be some reason for that. If god didn’t create it then who did?
Well if god created this universe, then another question arises—who then created God?
Does it make you laugh? Of course it does! The very concept of someone creating God is such an absurdity! But why? What’s the harm in asking this innocent question? You laugh and say, well nothing like that, but, who created god? God is the start of everything! Now asking whether who started the start is kind of, you know, so…… so stupid! I mean, who can answer that?
Well let me ease your anxiety a bit. Do you mean to say, that the statement “God exists” is an axiom? That this is the universal truth which is the base of every thing else! Oh! you seem to be relaxed now! Was this that you really wanted to say? Well, kind of…that makes sense.
Then let us analyze how we or rather mankind did, reach this conclusion. Every thing that happened to man or he witnessed, he kept asking the questions how, why, and finally who. As he applied his mind and found more answers, his quest went on increasing. For example we can consider any invention that we have today. None of the things have remained the same as they were when they were first designed. This shows that no matter what may be the subject, stagnating with the available knowledge is something that man has never accepted. Also as the knowledge goes on increasing, and more goals are achieved, higher goals replace the captured ones. Thus at some point of time, man asked himself what is the start or rather the end of this universe? What would happen if somehow men were to traverse the infinites of space? Would we reach at some wall that binds it all? And if so, then what is beyond that wall? And then finally, the most inevitable of all questions, who made the universe?
Now let us leave this question in mid air and move to something else which is as closely related to God that without which, I’m afraid, this discussion will never assume any definite direction. That, which I want to discuss now, is religion.
The first attempt ever, to form a philosophy was religion. It was an attempt, in the truest sense of the term, towards the creation of a philosophy – i.e. formulation of a code explaining the way of life that is, or rather, ought to be. The need for religion arose from the need of a man for society. By society I mean a place where a group of individuals live together out of free will with the purpose of mutual benefit by trading of the fruits of each other’s achievements. But as we know, mindsets differ and ideas clash. Thus disputes are inevitable. A bigger version of these also resulted in crime. This led to the belief that man, in order to live with other men, or rather in a society, needs to be put in some kind of bondage to ensure peace. It was preached that man, by virtue of his nature, is a vile creature and that his ego, pride and emotions need to be controlled so that he does not disturb the harmony of those living around him.
Now man, by his very nature does not want to be restricted. So in order to make some one believe that restriction is mandatory, there has to be a sanction of some authority whose reputation would be undisputed in terms of supremacy of thoughts and actions. Since man was inquisitive and rarely accepts the supremacy of anything or anyone, this authority should be capable of solving such mysteries as have never been solved before. What else could be a better answer than the one to the question, ‘who made the world?’ which has troubled generations of great thinkers and is yet completely unsolved?
We think that since people have been following religion for ages no matter what the level of scientific progress is, there has to be some thing important about this that the atheists don’t understand.
Well, ironically speaking, let us consider this observation and try to find out what the atheists have understood or rather, the believers either haven’t understood, or don’t want to understand – even before god was acknowledged the early man worshipped the nature.
Why? The reason is simple. He found that nature had phenomenon that he could not understand and was dependent on. Thus man worshipped fire, wind, rain and even the sun. But why do we not see that kind of worship prevalent today in most parts of the developed world? The answer is simple, that man now knows the source of these entities and has also been able to understand their working to a considerable extent. This was one example, there can be many such. Thus as the figure of reverence becomes more and more familiar, or understood, the feeling becomes lesser pronounced.
And the reason why only one entity (or rather non – entity) still enjoys the place of supremacy with mankind (i.e. god), is that until now there is not much development in the direction of the reason for the origin of the universe. Thus the belief that God created the universe still enjoys an indisputable position in millions of minds.
Thus, speaking objectively, about the statement that God created man; the truth is the other way round! It was man who made god!
